Cannabis: Progress in Innovation & Legalization

Updated: Mar 30, 2019

Cannabinoids have been shown to have multiple beneficial health properties and benefits. Some of those potential important health benefits include:

  • Reduces vomiting and nausea, stimulates appetite associated with cancer chemotherapy

  • Relieves chronic pain and reduces inflammation associated with a wide range of illnesses

  • Reduces anxiety and aids in sleeping

  • Reduces seizures, convulsions and muscle spasms associated with autoimmune diseases

The movement to legalize cannabis in the United States is gaining momentum. Multiple states have enacted laws that legalize or decriminalize use and possession for medicinal and/or recreational use.

In March of 2017, Harvard University, in conjunction with the Huffington Post, hosted a forum on the science of marijuana. Expert panelists with a variety of perspectives weigh in to discuss the benefits and risks; facts versus myths; how use of cannabis and products like CBD can be medically innovative, how use of marijuana affects cognitive performance; and discussion on laws and public health policy.
